About Body Of Sound

BODY OF SOUND is a journey into rhythm, voice and movement.

We offer workshops that are fun, participatory, educational and engaging for audiences and participants of all ages, shapes and sizes. We are available to do workshops at schools and Colleges, Corporate Events, Retreat Centers, Yoga and Dance studios. Body of Sound workshops and shows also make a wonderful addition to any party, festival or special event. Depending upon your needs and desires, we can tailor these shows to meet your vision.

In this workshop, we will draw from a variety of modalities such as Body Percussion, Vocal Toning, Ecstatic Dance, Contact Improvisation, Circle Song and Balinese Kecak.

Discover the freedom of creative expression! This is playful and fun!

When we use our body and voice to access the places within that are longing to be expressed, we are in touch with our authentic self. This generates a ‘feeling’ sense of belonging and connection that awakens the whole being and activates transformation.”

Alyssa DeCaro has been exploring various forms of movement arts for 26 years including Yoga, Dance (Tap, Contact Improvisation, African, Hip-Hop, Modern, Ballet), Gymnastics and Martial Arts. She has been drumming since the age of 10 and singing came a bit later in her 20’s. Alyssa discovered body music as a way to blend her love of movement and sound. For the last 4 years, she has performed with Gamelan X, a bali-bass groove music ensemble.

Alyssa has had the pleasure of studying with some amazing master teachers including Anna Halprin, Babatunde Olatunji, Ana Forrest, Vinn Marti, Suzanne Sterling, Thomas Fortel and Max Thomas. She is a graduate of the Tamalpa Institute for Movement-Based Expressive Arts Therapy and has completed the “Soul Motion” Movement Leadership Training. She has also completed the Forrest Yoga Teacher Certification. Alyssa developed her work at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California where she has been teaching classes and workshops since 2002. She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Through the journey of teaching and performing, she is constantly amazed at the capacity of creative energy that is within each of us. Alyssa finds deep joy in drawing this out of people who may have temporarily forgotten how to access the source within. It is from her own dedicated practice that Alyssa finds the overflowing abundance of this work.
