Your Trusty Guides Jamie Bender's long educational journey started at the age of 12 when she asked for a cookbook on healthy eating for her birthday. At this early age, she began to see food as medicine. Eight years later, she would go on to graduate from the Crestone Healing Arts Center with 650 hours of massage therapy training. In 2002, she completed her yoga teacher training at The Mount Madonna Institute and her certificate in herbal studies from The Northwest School of Botanical Studies. A traumatic knee injury shifted her attention to orthopedics and injury rehab and furthered her fascination with helping the body heal. She then began studying Neuromuscular Reprogramming (NMR) and exercise rehab. After 10 years with an injury rehab practice, she went back to school to continue her studies and to complete her licensure in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in Orthopedic Acupuncture and Classical Chinese Medicine. Jamie sees studying the body not as a means to an end, but as a lifelong fascination and a way of life. www.steppingintowellness.org
Alyssa DeCaro is a yoga teacher, group facilitator, dancer, and musician dedicated to helping others tune in to their “essential instrument” through movement, breath, rhythm, and ensemble connection. As a yoga teacher, Alyssa is known for her fluid sequencing, precise verbal cues, and heartfelt presence. She has been teaching locally and internationally for 20+ years and leads popular classes at several studios in the San Francisco Bay Area including Yoga Tree, Namaste, Flying Studios and The Green Yogi. Alyssa spent several years working at a fasting retreat center in the Southern California Desert where she guided people through the cleansing experience, taught nutrition and daily yoga, meditation and dance. In 2006, Alyssa founded BODY OF SOUND workshops and retreats based on the concept that your body is your most essential instrument. When leading groups, Alyssa has a natural ability to shape the collective field, transforming an ordinary room into an inspiring space where practice and play intertwine. Carolyn Cohen has spent the past 20+ years practicing bodywork, acupuncture, and movement as pathways to mindfulness, holistic health, and joyful living. From an early age, she was fascinated with anatomy and the self-healing potential of the mind-body connection. Intuitively drawn to massage, she has pursued over 1,500 hours of training since 1998 in Tui Na, Thai Massage, Deep Tissue, and several other modalities, in the US and abroad. After practicing yoga for 10 years, she completed 200 hours of vinyasa yoga training and began teaching in 2006. The joy of handstands and being upside down led her to collaboratively co-create AcroYoga International, wherein she contributed her knowledge of Thai Massage, which guides the therapeutic branch of the practice. She taught intensive workshops and teacher trainings for AYI around the globe from 2005-2018, empowering students with the skills of embodiment, playfulness, and communication. In another chapter, Carolyn spent three years as a sous chef and pastry chef for a vegan catering company. That experience rekindled her mojo in the kitchen as a place of joy and creativity, sparked initially from her childhood. Carolyn is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Certified Massage Therapist with the state boards of California, has a B.A. in Psychology (1994), an M.S. in Traditional Chinese Medicine (2002), and is currently earning a certificate in Orthopedic Acupuncture. In her private practice, she passionately supports her patients to transform pain, improve their lifestyle choices, and restore their self-healing capacity with ease and reverent joy.
